Feb 03,  · All together, Air sounds as if Devin Townsend decided to make a dreamy, post rock inspired album. It creates an atmosphere that is welcoming to those unused to metal, with no harsh vocals, ridiculous showmanship, or obnoxiously overdriven guitars, while avoiding the possibility of it being so simplified that metal fans would avoid it/5(25).

Astronoid manage to blend all of these ideas into a cohesive 50 minute experience that manages to never stray far away from their distinct sound. With Air, Astronoid have crafted the kind of album that can be enjoyed actively, due to its intricate nuances, or passively due to its hypnotic, dreamlike allure.

Astronoid "Air" CD. "Influences for the album range from extreme metal to progressive pop music. Artists like Emperor official, Enslaved, and Ihsahn -Official- drove my writing in a more metal direction, while groups like Mew, M83, and Cynic complemented the aggression with vocal harmonies and pop influenced song structure.

Astronoid's self-titled sophomore effort pares back the heaviness of their first album Air, which really holds this album back for me. The band is trying too hard to be too many things.

Jun 10,  · Buy Vinyl + free MP3 album $ I have never experienced something like Astronoid has delivered in "Air". It's heavy and full-bodied, yet melodic and graceful. While I think the vocals are engineered superbly, the sound of the band on these tracks leaves something to be desired. I get it, there probably wasn't much money put in to this /5(25).

Jan 31,  · One of the most challenging aspects of bringing innovation into the market is trying to follow it up. Massachusetts’ prog act Astronoid came out of nowhere and surprised many (including myself) with something fearless, boundless, and unique.. I described the act’s debut as part Coheed and Cambria, part blackened thrash, and part Junius space prog, but even that doesn’t quite put Air into.
