Galliard biography Galliard is a sextet formed in the summer of 68, and developed a psychedelic type of brass rock, fronted by twin wind players Caswell and Smith and singer Geoff Brown. They recorded two albums on the Deram Nova label (the subsidiary prog label of Decca records) around the turn of the 70's decade, when brass rock was the rage.

Scheidt was the first major German composer of consort music, although the English style he inherited through Sweelinck is clearly audible, mixed sometimes with Italian elements. He also worked directly with the English composer William Brade ().

Scheidt, as annotator Jean-Pierre Canihac points out, specified the use of viols, trombones, bassoons, and optional cornetts in the Ludi Musici. Certainly instrumentation was highly flexible at this stage of the early Baroque, and the group's transference of the music to new instruments is not an issue in itself.7/

This recordings of Scheidt's "Ludi Musici" ought to rank among the very best on the market. The ensemble is top rate and their interpretation is most pleasing. As an experienced Cornetto player myself I very much admire "Les Sacqueboutiers" because they perform with a comfortable smooth sound similar the Hesperion XX.5/5(4).
