   In we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Soundgarden's massive album Superunknown which to date has sold 9 million albums worldwide and is certified five times platinum by the RIAA in the US. Both a critical and commercial success, in Superunknown debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts and earned the band two Grammys for the singles.

   Fronted by Chris Cornell, whose handsome face caused some to dismiss his powerful, versatile voice, and featuring the kickass guitarwork of Kim Thayil, Soundgarden were a dynamic beast of a band, and Superunknown is a massive album. It was Soundgarden’s biggest album, their successful bid to the mainstream, featuring the kind of dynamite.

   Consequently, Down on the Upside is visceral as well as cerebral -- "Rhinosaur" goes for the gut, while "Pretty Noose" is updated, muscular prog rock. Down on the Upside is a deceptive album -- it might seem like nothing more than heavy metal, but a closer listen reveals that Soundgarden haven't tempered their ambitions at all.
