   Compiling two of the Stranglers' strongest albums, 's The Raven and 's La Folie, this two-disc set captures the band at the heights of its artistic and commercial success. The Raven was a chart-topper in the U.K. at the time of its release, fueled by the proto-new wave synth pop of hit single "Duchess." La Folie was the group's attempt to regain some waning popularity by enlisting.

   The re-release is limited to numbered copies and sees the original 11 track LP coupled with a bonus, 12 track album, called La Folie-Extra Texture, the first side of which features stand alone single Strange Little Girl, associated b-sides, a radio edit, a demo and a radio session track.

   "La Folie" is just a tale about some Japanese student that practiced cannibalism. That's it. The ACT and the GUY was sick, but the album isn't just about cannibalism. It's witty, melodic and quite poetic. The classic "Golden Brown" is what sets the tone on this mentmiddtupahoranlanatextkethouven.cos:

   'La Folie' didn't breakthrough enough into the album charts to change that perception. In truth, 'Golden Brown' and 'La Folie' apart, this is merely an average to good album although one or two of the tracks do shine in a typically progressive Stranglers way.
